SAN ANTONIO (April 10, 2026) – University of South Florida baseball dropped Game 1 of a three-game series against UTSA on the road. The Bulls (24-9, 5-5 American) fell to the Roadrunners (24-10, 7-3 American) by a score of 11-3.
UTSA got on the board early with a three-run bottom of the second. Josh Arquette was hit by a pitch with one out and was then pinch run for by Diego Diaz. He would advance to second on a balk and then to third on a groundout from Cade Sadler. Aidan Eshelman was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Jordan Ballin would walk to load the bases with two outs. Caden Miller would be hit by a pitch to score Diaz. Drew Detlefsen doubled to deep right field, clearing the bases. The Roadrunners led 4-0 headed to the third.
South Florida immediately cut the lead in half in the top half of the third inning.
Ryan Pruitt led the inning off with a walk.
Bradke Lohry was hit by a pitch, and
Lance Trippel walked to load the bases with one out.
Jake Kulikowski grounded out to first to score Pruitt and advance Lohry and Trippel.
Jevin Relaford was next up and hit an RBI single to right field, scoring Pruitt. The Bulls trailed 4-2 at the end of the third.
The lead would grow for the Roadrunners in the bottom of the fourth. A pitch would hit Detlefsen, and Garett Gruell would walk. They both scored on a three-run home run by Andrew Stucky, 431 feet to center field. UTSA led 7-2 at the end of the fourth.
Again, the Bulls responded in the top of the fifth. Lohry drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a groundout from pinch hitter
Matt Rose. Lohry advanced to third on a single from Trippel to left field. Kulikowski would score him with a sacrifice fly to left field, as the Bulls continue to lead the nation in sacrifice flies. South Florida will face the second-ranked team of Miami on the road next week in a midweek matchup. Headed to the bottom of the fifth, the Roadrunners led 7-3.
UTSA extended the lead in the bottom half of the fifth. Christian Hallmark led the inning off with a triple to right center. Eshelman reached on an error by Bulls first baseman,
Joey Brenczewski, and Hallmark scored. Ballin singled through the left side and advanced Eshelman to third. Miller hit a sacrifice fly to Eshelman from third, giving the Roadrunners a 9-3 lead, ending the fifth.
Scoring couldn't stop for UTSA, as another run came across in the bottom of the sixth. Andrew Stucky was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on a single through the right side of the infield by Lane Haworth. Stucky scored when Haworth was caught in a rundown between first and second. The inning would end on the play, counting the run and giving the Roadrunners a 10-3 lead.
Another run would score in the bottom of the seventh for UTSA. Hallmark drew a walk to start the inning and advanced to second on a single to center field from Eshelman. Hallmark was then advanced to third on a walk for Ballin. Miller would ground into a double play, but Hallmark scored on the play. The score would be 11-3 at the end of the seventh, in favor of UTSA.
Edwin Alicea made his ninth start on the mound for South Florida. He threw 3.1 innings and gave up 6 runs on three hits. He walked four batters and hit five. That is the most for a pitcher in a single game per active records dating back to 2012. Alicea received the loss and is now 5-3 on the season.
Notables:
• The Bulls hit another sacrifice fly and continue to lead the nation.

Jevin Relaford had two hits and an RBI, as well as two stolen bases on the day.

Edwin Alicea hit five batters, the most in a single game per active records dating back to 2012.
• South Florida is now on a five-game losing streak against UTSA.
• This is the largest deficit the Bulls have lost to the Roadrunners by.
