South Florida Baseball Falls to Ranked 14th Florida State

The Bulls are defeated 9-1, and are now on a four-game losing streak

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (April 29, 2026) – University of South Florida baseball headed up the road to the state capital to face Florida State, which is currently ranked 14th in the country. The Bulls (28-16, 7-11 American) were defeated by the Seminoles (30-14, 12-9 ACC) 9-1.

Over half of Florida State's runs came immediately in the bottom of the first. They scored five runs on three hits and two errors. Brody DeLamielleure hit a single to record two RBIs. Eli Putnam also hit a single, his for just one RBI. Both of them would score on a fielding error from Bulls shortstop, Jevin Relaford. The score would be 5-0 FSU at the end of the first.

The only run of the game for South Florida would come across in the top half of the fourth inning. Juan Correa led the inning off with a double. Lance Trippel would score him with an RBI single up the middle. Ending the fourth, the lead would still be in favor of the Seminoles, 5-1.

Two more two-run innings would occur for Florida State, in the bottom of the fifth, and in the bottom of the seventh. DeLamielleure hit a home run on the first pitch Landen Yorek threw in the game. He went three for four on the day with three RBIs.

Nathan Earley was the only Bull to have a multi-hit game, going two for four. The last time South Florida defeated a ranked opponent was in 2024, when the Bulls beat fifth-ranked ECU at home.

Will Allen got the call to start on the bump for the Bulls. He recorded one out in the first inning, a strikeout looking. He gave up four runs, three of them earned. Allen was relieved by Dominic Pontbriant, who threw the longest for South Florida on the day, with 2.2 innings. Nolan Bernard, Brisen Tweedy, Landen Yorek, and Landon O'Donnell all made appearances. Allen received the loss and is now 0-2 on the season.
