South Florida Baseball Heads to Tulane for Crucial Conference Matchup

The Bulls are tied with the Green Wave at 8-13 in the American Conference

TAMPA, Fla. (May 6, 2026) – South Florida baseball goes on the road for the final time in the 2026 regular season when they play a weekend series in New Orleans against Tulane. The Bulls (29-18, 8-13 American) face the Green Wave (23-27, 8-13 American) in a three-game series that starts Friday at 7:30 p.m.
 
Both teams are searching for a spot in the upcoming American Conference baseball tournament in Clearwater, Fla. The Bulls have one final three-game conference series against Wichita State at home next weekend.
 
Setting The Stage:
South Florida lost a three-game conference series to Florida Atlantic at home last weekend. The Bulls took Game 3 on Sunday to snap a six-game losing streak. Jevin Relaford stole his 27th and 28th bags of the year and is now ninth all-time in stolen bases in a single South Florida season. His total is the most for a Bulls player since Gio Camaro set the program season record with 50 in 1996.
 
Tulane was swept on the road in Charlotte last weekend and lost Game 1 of the three-game series 10-0 in seven innings. They also lost to LSU on the road in a midweek matchup on Tuesday night. The Green Wave are on a four-game losing streak, with their last win coming at home against 12th-ranked Southern Mississippi on April 28.
 
Series History:
Tulane leads the all-time series, 43-33. Last season, the Bulls hosted the Green Wave and swept the three-game series. On the road in New Orleans, South Florida is 17-19 and hasn't won a series there since March of 2001.
 
Note-A-Bull:
  • Jevin Relaford has 28 stolen bases on the year and is now 9th all-time in stolen bases in a single season, the most for a Bull since 1996.
  • Ethan Sutton has nine saves on the season and is on the NCBWA Midseason Stopper of the Year Watch List. His nine saves are tied for the American Conference lead.
  • South Florida is 21-2 when scoring six or more runs on the year.
  • Relaford is currently on a 16-game reached base streak in conference games.
  • The Bulls lead the conference in ERA (4.41) and WHIP (1.34).

The program continues to develop top-tier talent with 134 MLB Draft picks all-time, including three selections in 2025. Notable alumni include two-time MLB All-Star and 2018 first-round draft pick Shane McClanahan. Bulls have earned All-America honors 12 times and Freshman All-America recognition 19 times.
