What is an Official Visit?
An official visit to a member institution by a prospective student-athlete is a visit financed in whole or in part by the member institution. Â Each prospect may take up to five (5) total official visits, but only one official visit per institution.
Prior to an Official Visit
All official visits must be approved in advance by the USF Athletic Compliance Office. PSAs must provide the following to a coaching staff member prior to making their official visit:
- Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center.  USF will add the PSA to their IRL prior to the visit
- High school transcript or collegiate transcript for a transfer
- PLAN, ACT, PSAT or SAT test scores
In sports other than Basketball and Football, a prospect may be provided an official visit once they begin his or her senior year in high school. Â Exceptions below:
- In Men’s Basketball, a prospect may not be provided an official visit earlier than January 1 of his junior year in high school.
- In Women’s Basketball, a prospect may not be provided an official visit earlier than the Thursday following the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship game of the prospective student-athlete’s junior year in high school.
- In Football, a prospect may not be provided an official visit earlier than April 1 of his junior year (the early signing period ends the Sunday before the last Wednesday in June of that year).
- Official visits may not occur in conjunction with a prospective student-athlete’s participation in an institutional camp or clinic.
During an Official Visit
During an official visit, USF may pay for the following:
- Reasonable transportation (prospect only)
- For Basketball and Football, USF may pay the actual round trip costs for a prospect’s parents or legal guardians (expenses for up to two people) to accompany the prospect on his official visit.
- Lodging (up to four family members)
- Entertainment within a 30-mile radius of main campus (up to four family members)Â
- Meals (up to four family members)
- Complimentary Admissions to home athletics event (max of six)
What is an Unofficial Visit?
An unofficial visit to a member institution by a prospective student-athlete is a visit made at the prospective student-athlete’s own expense. The provision of any expenses or entertainment valued at more than $100 by the institution or representatives of its athletics interests shall require the visit to become an official visit.
During an Unofficial Visit
During an unofficial visit, the following may occur:
- Prospect may visit campus an unlimited number of times at any age
- Complimentary Admissions to home athletics event (max of three)
- Prospect must pay the actual cost of meals
- Prospect and USF staff members may have off-campus contact within one (1) mile of the main campus boundaries
