After a stellar playing career at the University of Arkansas where she was one of the best point guards ever to wear a women's basketball uniform in the Southeastern Conference (SEC), Amy Wright is at the beginning of what has been already a promising career on the sidelines at USF. Wright, a native of Williamsburg, IN, is in her third year with the Bulls and her second as an assistant coach. Wright was originally hired as USF’s Director of Basketball Operations, a position she held until being named assistant coach in January of 2004.
A 2002 graduate of Arkansas, Wright was a four-year letterwinner on the Razorbacks women's basketball team. During her time in Fayetteville, she established herself as one of the premier assist women in the SEC. She graduated as the program’s all-time leader in assists with 717 (5.5 apg) to go along with her 5.5 points per game average. Her career assist total is also - at the conclusion of the 2002-03 season - 32nd all-time in NCAA Division I history.
Wright set the school record for assists in a season with 205 posted during her senior year while helping the Lady Razorbacks to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She closed her collegiate career with almost 200 assists more than the former record holder, had more double-digit assist games than any other player in Arkansas history, and became the first player in UA history to record a double-double of 10 assists and 10 rebounds in a single game.
In addition, Wright never missed a game playing in 131 consecutive contests breaking the old mark of 128, and she is the only point guard in school history to lead her team to four straight post season berths.
She was an All-SEC selection as a junior (2001-02).
Also a standout performer in the classroom, Wright graduated from Arkansas with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing and management while earning a career 3.0 grade point average. For her efforts off the court, Wright was tabbed a SEC All-Academic selection (1999-00) and was named a University of Arkansas Scholar Athlete (maintaining a 3.0 through career) at the conclusion of her collegiate career.
Upon graduation Wright played one season with the Detroit Shock of the WNBA in addition to working towards her masters degree in sports management at Arkansas. She will continue to work towards her masters at USF.
