USF Suffers First Conference Loss

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (Sunday, Oct. 9) ? An early goal by Syracuse midfielder James Goodwin proved to be the difference as the University of South Florida men's soccer team (6-4-0, 5-1-0 BIG EAST) suffered its first conference loss of the 2005 season, 1-0, to the Orange (5-5-2, 1-5-1 BIG EAST) at Lampe Athletics Complex on Sunday, Oct. 9. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for USF ? the longest under head coach George Kiefer.

Off of an Isaac Collings' free kick in the ninth minute, Goodwin scored the game's only goal with a strike from 10 yards out. The goal was the first of the season for Goodwin. Collings was credited with his fourth assist of the season on the play.

Jordan Seabrook, Jason Devenish and Sammy Castellanos led the Bulls with two shots each in the match. Goalkeeper Dane Brenner registered four saves in the 1-0 defeat.

USF next hosts the DePaul Blue Demons in BIG EAST action on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at the USF Soccer Stadium. Game time is 7:30 p.m. (EST).
