USF Falls to No. 17 Marquette, 4-1, in First BIG EAST Conference Game

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (September 16, 2005) ? In its inaugural BIG EAST conference game, the USF women's soccer team (4-2-0, 0-1-0 BIG EAST) fell to the No. 17 Marquette Golden Eagles (7-0-1, 1-0 BIG EAST), 4-1, Friday night at Valley Fields in Milwaukee, Wis.
Marquette opened up the scoring in the 29th minute off a goal by Lauren Weber, who was assisted by Meghan Connelly and Christy Zwolski.
Zwolski was a thorn in the Bulls side all night as she scored the Golden Eagles next two goals in the 50th and 63rd minute of the contest.
USF lone score came off the foot of senior Katie Reed, who was assisted by teammates Erica Lewis and Michelle Buskey. The goal in the 66th minute of the game was Reed's first goal of the season and USF's first ever goal as a member of the BIG EAST Conference. Lewis notched her second assist on the season while Buskey is tied for the team lead of three with Reed.
The Bulls combined for 12 shots on the night and four on goal compared to Marquette's 15 shots, with six being on goal. Marquette also edged USF in corners, 6-3.
The Bulls will return home for a non-conference match up against North Florida at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the USF Soccer Stadium.
