Final Stats (pdf) TAMPA, Fla. (Sunday, Sept. 4) ? Scoring his first-career hat trick as a member of the University of South Florida men's soccer team,
Jordan Seabrook led the Bulls (1-1-0, 0-0-0 BIG EAST) to a 6-3 win over the Jacksonville Dolphins (1-1-0, 0-0-0 A-SUN) on Sunday, Sept. 4 at the USF Soccer Stadium. In a contest which was controlled by USF the entire night, the Bulls jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first half and never looked back.
“I thought the guys did a great job as far as in response to the FIU game”, said head coach George Kiefer. “Having the amount of guys out that we had out hurts your depth. Some guys had to go longer on Friday night and I knew they would be exhausted. To come out and get four goals in the first half was great on their part. I'm very pleased with the group's effort right now. Jordan (Seabrook) showed people tonight that he is a handful. It was also nice to have Keeron (Benito) back in the lineup. The team is much more in sync when he is playing. And I thought he did a great job tonight.”
Seabrook, who scored three goals and two assists on the night, ran all over the Jacksonville defense, pressuring the Dolphin's goalkeepers for eight shots (four on net). The Indianapolis, Ind., native had a hand in five of USF's six goals in the contest. Midfielder
Keeron Benito- although not registering a point in the contest ? made his presence felt in his first outing of the 2005 season, controlling the midfield while taking three shots on the night. USF scored four goals with Benito on the field. Junior
Sammy Castellanos and freshman
Jason Devenish each notched their first goals as a member of the USF squad. Sophomore
Rodrigo Hidalgo converted a penalty kick, while notching a career-high three assists.
Goalkeeper
Dane Brenner (1-1-0, 2.00 GAA) made six saves versus the Dolphins, including one on a penalty kick attempt by JU's Tommy Krizanovic in the 62nd minute. The score would have cut the USF lead to just one goal, however Brenner was able to get a hand on the shot sending wide of its intended target.
Seabrook got USF on the board with two quick strikes in the early part of the first half. Sophomore Kris Raad sent a through-ball to a streaking Seabrook in the penalty area. The freshman striker pushed a shot to the left of JU goalkeeper Loren Schumard to give USF a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. Three minutes later, Seabrook got past Schumard ? on a break away ? netting his second goal of the night.
Hidalgo made the score 3-0 after converting his first-career penalty kick at USF in the 29th minute. Castellanos scored USF's fourth goal of the night in the 33rd minute. At the top of the Jacksonville area, Castellanos passed the ball to Seabrook who in turn sent the ball back to the USF midfielder. The give-and-go positioned the Philadelphia, Pa., native to record his first goal as a Bull. Following the score JU, replaced Schumard with Joey Sanchez.
JU cut USF's lead to 4-2 with a pair of goals during the first seven minutes of the second half. Anton Axelsson and Jonathan Jackson each scored to reduce USF's lead to just two.
Seabrook answered with his third goal of the night in the 56th minute. Freshman
Kevon Neaves sent a long pass to Seabrook who was unmarked at the edge of the penalty area. The first-year striker ripped a shot past Sanchez to give USF a 5-2 lead.
Krizaonvic made the score 5-3 after converting a penalty kick in the 59th minute. USF regained its three-goal lead in the 87th minute when Devenish scored his first-career goal. Seabrook notched his second assist of the contest finding Devenish for USF's sixth goal of the night.
The six goals scored by USF were the most a team coached by Kiefer had recorded in his four seasons at the university. With the win, the Bulls move to 4-0-1 in their last five meeting with the Dolphins, while coach Kiefer moves to 3-0-1 all-time versus JU.
USF next travel to Dallas, Texas to take part in the SMU Radisson Hotel Classic Sept. 9-11. The Bulls' first opponent will be the New Mexico Lobos on Friday, Sept. 9. Game time is 6 p.m. (EST).
