October 21, 2006 | Men's Soccer
QUEENS, N.Y. (October 21, 2006) ? A goal by Red Storm forward Ryan Soroka in the 23rd minute proved to be the difference as the University of South Florida men's soccer team (8-5-4, 4-3-4 BIG EAST) dropped its final regular season game of the 2006 season with a 1-0 loss at St. John's (9-5-2, 5-4-2 BIG EAST) on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Belson Stadium.
Soroka's first-half goal was scored when the St. John's forward one-timed a low cross by Jara Habib. The goal was the fifth of the season for Soroka. Habib was credited with his third assist of the season.
The evenly-played match saw both teams record six shots on the night with St. John's holding a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Both goalkeepers recorded three saves in contest. Dane Brenner suffered his fifth loss of the season, while St. John's goalkeeper Jason Landers held the Bulls scoreless for just the fourth time this season.
Jordan Seabrook and Rodrigo Hidalgo led USF each with two shots in the contest.
The loss snapped USF's five-game unbeaten streak and moved the Red Storm ahead of the Bulls in the BIG EAST standings.
The BIG EAST Championship is up next for the Bulls. It will begin Wednesday, Oct. 25 on campus sites. The Bulls' first-round opponent has yet to be determined. Seedings and matchups for this year's BIG EAST Championship will be posted on www.BIGEAST.org as well as www.GoUSFBulls.com.
