USF Women Look For Fourth Straight Win vs. Stetson

The University of South Florida women's basketball team looks for its fourth straight win tonight when it faces its first of three in-state foes, Stetson at 5:30 p.m. in the Sun Dome ... The game is the first game of a men's women's doubleheader with the USF men's team who faces Florida International at 8 p.m. ... Tonight's game marks the fourth game of a season-long seven-game home stand to open the 2006-07 season for the Bulls (4-0) ... In addition it is the third game in four days that the Bulls will play ... USF comes into its contest with the Hatters having received votes in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll ... The Bulls earned 11 votes - four more than the previous week ... The ESPN/USA Today Top 25 coaches poll has not been released since the preseason poll when USF had two votes ... The Bulls look to improve their record to 4-0 tonight for the second straight year and just the third time since head coach Jose Fernandez took over USF's reigns for the 2000-01 season ... The Bulls have begun the season 4-0 just five time previously with their best undefeated start being an 8-0 beginning during the 1976-77 season ... The Bulls are 23-7 over the past two seasons against non-conference foes with the only losses coming against No. 7 North Carolina, No. 13 Michigan State, and No. 3 LSU last season, and No. 6 Duke, Eastern Michigan, No. 8 Connecticut and Florida in 2004-05 ... USF will try to keep its momentum up after this weekend's performance in the Image Depot Shootout ... The Bulls defeated Texas Southern 89-37 on Nov. 18 and handed Georgia Southern a 94-65 setback on Nov. 19 ... USF has displayed total offensive and defensive dominance in its three games this year ... Offensively it has averaged a BIG EAST leading 89.3 points per game while allowing the opposition to score just 53.7 points per contest ... Shantia Grace leads the team - and the BIG EAST - in scoring netting 23 points per game ... She has tied her career high (24) in the last two games ... All-America and National Player of the Year candidate Jessica Dickson is the only other player in the confersnce to average 20 or more points as she is netting 20.7 points per game ... Dickson's 17 against Georgia Southern on Sunday leaves her just three points from tying and four points from surpassing Wanda Guyton (19985, 87-89) as the all-time scoring leader in USF women's basketball history ... Guyton finished her career with 1,820 career points ... Dickson currently has 1,817 career points.
