Bulls Win First Close Game Of The Year, 1-0

TAMPA, Fla. (Feb. 19, 2006) ? The University of South Florida softball team won its second-straight game of the season, defeating the College of Charleston, 1-0, in day two of the Wilson Invitational at the USF Softball Field.

This was the first one-run win of the season for the Bulls, who played strong till the end thanks to solid pitching by Cristi Ecks. The freshman threw her first complete-game shutout of her career, scattering six hits while striking out a career-high seven batters.

The first three innings featured a pitching duel between USF's Ecks and CofC's Amber Havner, as they held the game scoreless and combined to allow only three hits.

It wasn't until the fourth when the scoreless tie ended in USF's favor, as senior Christie Chapman came up to bat and blasted the ball to right field, 1-0. It was Chapman's second homer of the season and the 17th of her career.

Havner held the Bulls to only four hits in the game, but USF only need one to get the win.

USF will conclude day two of the Wilson Invitational when it faces FAMU tonight at 4 p.m.
