TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Sammy Mejia had 21 points as DePaul snapped a six-game losing streak in an 80-66 victory over USF on Friday night.
Mejia had been slowed by an injured left ankle, and scored only five points over 24 minutes in Tuesday's 64-44 loss to Georgetown. He had 16 points in the opening half against USF, helping DePaul take a 38-30 halftime lead.
DePaul (9-11, 2-7 Big East) also got 16 points from Karron Clarke. The six consecutive losses was the Blue Demons' longest skid since a nine-game stretch from Dec. 3, 1997-Jan. 11, 1998.
Melvin Buckley had 22 points for USF (6-15, 0-8), which has lost 10 straight games. The losing skid equals the second longest in school history, and is two away from the USF record set Jan. 21-Feb. 16, 1980.
DePaul scored the first seven points of the second half, including a lay up by Rashad Woods, in taking a 45-30 lead with 17 minutes left. The lead was extended to 57-38 with 11? minutes remaining after Wesley Green scored five consecutive points.
USF got within 76-63 with 1:21 to go on James Holmes' 3-pointer. Mejia made three free throws in the final 70 seconds.
