TAMPA, Fla. (August 16, 2006) ? In the second exhibition game of the 2006 preseason, the University of South Florida men's soccer team shut out the UCF Golden Knights, 1-0, on Wednesday, August 16 at the IMG Fields in Bradenton, Fla. A goal by junior Kris Raad proved to be the difference as the Bulls improved their preseason record to 2-0.
USF's defense held UCF's offense in check for most of the match, while the Bulls' offense continued to pressure the Golden Knights defense. Raad scored the games lone goal, finding the back of the net in the second half. From the right side of the 18-yard box, the junior midfielder curled a shot far post, giving USF the 1-0 advantage. Sophomore Jordan Seabrook was credited with an assist on the goal.
Goalkeepers Dane Brenner and Diego Restrepo shared time in net, registering the team's second-straight clean sheet. Brenner started the match, while Restrepo came in at the start of the second half. The game last just 70 minutes as the second half was cut short to 25 minutes due to inclement weather.
USF will close out its 2006 preseason with an exhibition match at Saint Louis on Saturday, Aug. 19. Game time is 7 p.m. The Bulls will kick off the 2006 regular season when they face in-state rival FIU on Friday, Aug. 25 in Miami, Fla. Game time is slated for 8 p.m.
