Seniors Lead At Louisville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Seniors Maressa Pinzini, Emily Wakley and Lisa Giblin led the way for the University of South Florida women's cross country team at the 2007 BIG EAST Championship Sat., Oct. 27.

The 23:11.65 finishing time that Pinzini compiled on the 6K course is her second team-leading performance of the year.  Wakley crossed the line exactly 20 seconds behind Pinzini, in 23:31.65.

Tallahassee native Lisa Giblin was the next Bull to cut the tape, in 23:43.10, with newcomer Kayley Matthews and sophomore Kelly Savery rounding out USF's finishes.

The West Virginia Mountaineers women's team captured the Championship at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park. The team title is the first BIG EAST Cross Country Championship for WVU.

The West Virginia women were led by sophomore Marie-Louise Asselin, who was the runner-up with a time of 20:19.30.

West Virginia's staff of head coach Sean Cleary and assistants Jennifer Davis, Tim Sullivan, Will Hunter, Dave Moreland and Illora Cipelot were named the women's BIG EAST Staff of the Year.

USF averaged 23:42.72 for a total time of 118:33.60 to come in 14th place in the meet.

The squad will next compete in the NCAA Regionals on Sat., Nov. 10 in Gainesville, Fla.
