DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) ? Kentrell Gransberry scored 21 points and
Chris Howard 18 as the University of South Florida won its first game of the
Stan Heath era, downing Florida Atlantic 100-69 Saturday at the Ocean Center in the Glenn Wilkes Classic.
It was the first time USF has hit the century mark since a 117-108 win over TCU on Jan. 5, 2002. The Bulls are 1-3 on the year, with FAU falling to 1-3.
Guard Solomon Bozeman came off the bench to score 17 for USF, going 5-for-6 shooting, including four 3-pointers and was a perfect 3-of-3 from the free throw line.
The Bulls had a 52-25 halftime lead on the Owls and opened the first 10 minutes on a 30-13 run. FAU was down by at least 20 points throughout the second half.
Guard Jesus Verdejo also scored 13 for the Bulls, while Gransberry, who went 8-of-13 shooting, added a game-high nine rebounds. Howard added a game-high nine assists.
Guard Paul Graham III had a game-high 23 points for FAU, shooting 6-of-12 inside the paint, while forward Carlos Monroe contributed 15 on 5-of-11 shooting for the Owls.
The Owls shot just 38 percent in the paint in the first half and allowed USF to score 34 points off the bench.
USF faces Florida State Sunday at 8:30 p.m. in a game televised on Catch 47.
