Men's Tennis Blanks Boston College For Second Straight Win

TAMPA, Fla. (March 8, 2007) ? With straight-set victories in singles action and yet another doubles play sweep, the University of South Florida men's tennis team won its second match in as many days, with a 7-0 shutout of Boston College, Thursday afternoon.

The Bulls (5-6), winners of four of their last five matches, came out firing yet again for the doubles point.

Henning Hipp and partner Daniel Daudt made quick work of BC's Sam Wagner and Geoff Mueller in the No. 2 spot with an 8-2 win to boost the pair's dual record to an even 5-5 on the year.

Courts one and three saw closer matches, however the Bulls were able to stave off the Eagles each time.  Ales Svigelj and Marc Jaeger took their duel at No. 3, 8-5 and Mahmoud Hamed and Thomas Estrada escaped 8-7 at the top spot.

In singles, Jaeger continued his fine play of late, winning 6-0, 6-2 over Jason Sechrist on court two.  The junior from Stuttgart, Germany now has two wins in as many days from the second flight.

The Bulls did not allow a single set to the Eagles (2-6) in any of the other flights.

“I thought we were better focused today,” said head coach Don Barr.  “I was very pleased with how we closed out matches.  We had better intensity.”

With the fifth win of the season, USF equaled its win total from all of last year.

“Each opponent is getting stronger as we go through the schedule,” continued Barr.  “We have to continue to do the same to match them.”

The Bulls will take Friday off before resuming play Saturday, hosting the second BIG EAST foe of the year, Marquette.  Action will take place at Noon from the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.  Admission is free.
