Bulls Eliminated From BIG EAST Tournament With 2-0 Loss To UConn

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (May 25, 2007) ? The fifth-seed University of South Florida lost 2-0 to the eighth-seeded Connecticut Huskies Friday night at the 2007 BIG EAST Baseball Championship held at KeySpan Park in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Bulls were shut out by the Huskies in back-to-back games in the double-elimination tournament.

In his fifth start of the season, senior right hander Yuri Higgins struck out six batters, but allowed two runs from two hits in the seventh to drop his record to 5-4 this season. Senior Danny Otero came in for relief in the seventh striking out one while allowing one run in 1.1 inning of work.

For the second game in a row, junior shortstop Walter Diaz started the game with a leadoff single, but like in the first game of the day, the Bulls couldn't bring him around to score.

After six and a half scoreless innings, the Huskies did their damage in the seventh inning, scoring two runs from three hits, including two doubles to the left side to win the game 2-0.

After Friday's loss the Bulls are 34-26 overall and will await the possibility of a berth into the NCAA Regional Tournament. Selections to the regional tournaments will be made at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 28.
