Bulls Tie Program Shutout Record Of Nine With 3-0 Win Over FAU

BOX SCORE

TAMPA ? After a scoreless opening session, the Bulls put on a show in the second half by scoring three goals within 10 minutes to beat Florida Atlantic University, 3-0, Tuesday night at the USF Soccer Stadium.  The shutout ties a program record of nine, also set last season.

Freshman Sebastien Thuriere scored the first collegiate goal of his career in the 77th minute, after he fired a shot from 25-yards out, over the head of FAU's goalkeeper Phillip Lamarre.

“Coach told me to come into the game and make an impact,” said Thuriere. “I didn't even think about it, I just let it go and it happened.”

Thuriere's goal was soon followed by Kevon Neaves in the 82nd minute. Freshman Aubrey Perry worked his way past the FAU defenders to hand it off to Neaves, who scored his third goal of the year.

Eight minutes and 27 second later, junior Armante Marshall deposited the third goal of the game after junior Jorge Mora crossed it to Marshall from the middle of the penalty box.

“It was good to get the closer and always good to add an extra goal to any lead,” said Marshall. “It was a goal for the team to come and tie the shutout record of nine.”

Sophomore goalkeeper Jeff Attinella recorded his seventh shutout of the year. Attinella's record is 8-2-1 and improves his goal against average to 0.35 which is in the top five nationally.

The Bulls outshot the FAU Owls 13-7 overall and 8-3 in the second half. The Bulls improve to 9-3-2 overall and remain at 5-2-1 in the BIG EAST conference.

“It was a good team performance where a lot of guys contributed," said USF head coach George Kiefer. "I think we scored three very good goals tonight. Sebastian's one from long range and Kevon bending it around the keeper was nice to see. It was a good game to bounce back. Nine is current program record for shutouts and with three regular season games, hopefully we can put another record into our locker room.”

The Bulls will return to BIG EAST conference action when they head to Pennsylvania as they take on the Villanova Wildcats, Friday, Oct. 24 at 3:30 p.m.
