TAMPA, Fla. ? The University of South Florida men's tennis team won their second-straight match Thursday afternoon, defeating the St. John's Red Storm, 5-2, at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
The Bulls (5-3) jumped out to a 1-0 lead by sweeping three-of-three doubles matches on the afternoon. The tandem of Thomas Estrada and Daniel Daudt evened their dual-match doubles record to 4-4 with their 8-4 victory over Artem Vlasenko and Alex Svetlakov of St. John's.
USF kept up the pace in singles competition winning four-of-five matches played en route to a 5-2 victory over the Red Storm. No. 67-ranked Lucas Jovita stepped in for Hamed at the top singles spot, picking up the straight-set victory over Vlasenko, 6-2, 6-2. The win brings his dual-match record to 5-3 on the season and 3-0 at the No. 1 singles position.
Freshman Jamal Adderley raised his dual-match record to 6-3 on the season winning at the No. 2 position.
Also picking up key victories were Diego Toledo (No. 3) and Thomas Estrada (No. 4)
The Bulls will return to the courts on Saturday, March 1 when they face the FAU Owls. The last time these two Florida schools faced each other, USF came out victorious, 5-2. The first serve is set for noon.
