The Bulls carried momentum into the nightcap and defeated St. John's 8-0 in six innings to complete the sweep in opening night of league play at the USF Softball Complex.

USF quickly jumped into the lead at the bottom of the first as Kit Dunbar crossed home plate on a fielder's choice. Dunbar reached first base on a single, stole second and advanced to third on an illegal pitch.

Senior Aya Nakajima scored for the Bulls on a Giddens' single up the middle to make the score 2-0 in the second.

The Bulls scored four more runs in the third off of three hits and three walks to make the score 6-0.

With the bases loaded and two outs at the top of the third, St. John's threatened to score but senior pitcher Courtney Mosch denied the Red Storm as she struck out Shauntaine Harris to end the rally.

Giddens hit her fourth homerun of the season to put the Bulls up 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore Alison Savarese put the Red Storm away on an RBI-double to left field to run-rule St. John's in the bottom of the sixth.

Giddens went 3-for-4, four RBI and a run in game two against the Red Storm. Savarese finished the game 1-for-2, one run and one RBI.

Courtney Mosch improved her record in the circle to 13-5.

USF will return to the field on Sunday as the Bulls continue BIG EAST play against Seton Hall. The double header is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. at the USF Softball Complex in Tampa, Fla.
