TAMPA (9/25/2008) - The University of South Florida women's soccer team marched into Storrs, Conn. and battled the Connecticut Huskies for 110 minutes and came away with a 0-0 tie.
“I am very proud of the team,” said Bulls head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. “To come out and compete against a team like UConn, an elite eight team from a year ago, is great to see. I liked composure we showed. We stayed aggressive on the attack. We played for the win, instead of just trying to defend. We were aggressive and played to the very end.”
Junior goalkeeper Mallori Lofton-Malachi was impressive once again between the posts for the Bulls. She matched her career high with 11 saves. The shutout is the fourth of the season for Lofton-Malachi and ninth for her career.
“Mallori was great, like she always is,” added Schilte-Brown. “She really held it together for us.”
On the season, Lofton-Malachi has 56 saves and has only given up .58 goals per game.
In the match the Bulls mustered four shots on goal and 11 total shots for the match.
The game marks the seventh overtime match of the season for the Bulls.
With the tie, USF's record moves to 4-2-3, and 0-1-1 in BIG EAST games.
