Tampa- The University of South Florida women's tennis team finished
Day Two at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships on Saturday.
Senior Melissa Koning started out the day for the Bulls with
a win in her singles match against Claudia Wasilewski of Miami. Koning beat
Wasilewski in two sets 6-1, 6-3 which advanced her to the round of 16 in the
singles division.
Koning faced Katie Rybakova of Florida State in her round of
16 singles match on Saturday. Koning fell to Rybakova in two sets 6-4, 6-2.
Senior Jessica Zok also competed in singles action for the
Bulls on Saturday against Laura McCreless of Florida State. Zok lost to
McCreless in two sets 6-1, 6-1.
Senior Natalia Guevara competed in singles action for the
Bulls on Saturday with her singles match against Francescaa Segarelli of
Florida State. Guevara fell to Segarelli 6-1, 6-2.
Freshman Ecaterina Vasenina competed in the consolation
singles division on Saturday for the Bulls. Up first for Vasenina was her consolation singles match
against Kristi Kegerreis of Georgia State. Vasenina topped Kegerreis in two
sets 6-1, 6-2. With the win Vasenina advanced to the round of 16 in the
consolation singles division where she faced Rachel Pye of Florida Atlantic.
Vasenina rolled past Pye in two sets 6-1, 6-4.
Senior Allyn Mueller also picked up two singles consolation
wins for the Bulls on Saturday. Muller faced Mogoli Holt of Florida
International in her first match of the day and Mueller earned a walkover
against Holt. With the walkover Mueller advanced to the round of 16 in the
consolation singles division where she faced Unnati Purushotham of Stetson. The
two players kept things close but it was Mueller who came out on top in the end
with her 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 come from behind win.
Junior Irene Rehberger closed out singles competition for
the Bulls on Saturday with her two consolation singles matches. Up first for
Rehberger was her consolation singles match against Allison Hodges of Central
Florida. Rehberger beat Hodges 6-2, 6-1.
With the win Rehberger moved on to the round of 16 in the
consolation singles division where she faced Virginia Galbarini of Stetson.
Rehberger topped Galbarini in two sets 6-0, 6-3. Vasenina, Mueller and
Rehberger will all be competing in the quarterfinals in the consolation singles
division on Sunday.
Mueller and Vasenina competed in doubles action for the
Bulls again on Saturday against Lauren Embree and Allie Will of Florida.
Mueller and Vasenina fell to Embree and Will 8-2.
Rehberger and Koning also competed in doubles action for the
Bulls on Saturday against Shannon Gunning and Unnati Purushotham of Stetson.
Rehberger and Koning rolled past Gunning and Purushotham 8-0. With the win
Rehberger and Koning move on to the quarterfinals of the main draw doubles
division.
Day Three at the ITA Southeast Regional Championships is set
to start at 9:30 a.m.
