TAMPA-With the first pick of the fifth round in the 2010 Women's Professional Soccer Draft, the Atlanta Beat selected University of South Florida goalkeeper
Mallori Lofton-Malachi.
Deemed as "one of the most athletic goalkeepers in America," Lofton-Malachi leaves USF with a number of USF goalkeeping records. The three-year starter, Lofton-Malachi, ended her USF career in second place in career saves with 293 behind only Breck Bankster (318).
She leaves holding the lowest all-time goals against average (1.12) and the most career shutouts (18) in USF history. She also started the final 52 matches of her career. Lofton-Malachi guided the Bulls to 22 career wins.
The Atlanta Beat joined Women's Professional Soccer as an expansion team in 2010, and will play its home games at Kennesaw State University. The club will succeed the former Atlanta Beat of the defunct Women's United Soccer Association.
