Janette Bejlkova was back in action for the Bulls after sitting out the past season due to an injury.
The Bulls, who entered 2010 No. 75 in the ITA rankings, started the day out right by picking up the doubles point over the Seminoles.
Junior Irene Rehberger and senior Melissa Koning teamed up together on Saturday against Francesca Segarelli and Lauren McCreless in the flight one doubles spot. The two teams kept things close throughout the match but it was Rehberger and Koning who ended up topping Segarelli and McCreless 8-6.
Senior Allyn Mueller and senior Natalia Guevara helped seal the doubles point for the Bulls on Saturday in their flight two doubles match against Katie Rybakova and Frederica Suess. This was another close match for the Bulls but it was Mueller and Guevara who walked away with the 8-6 win. That gave the Bulls the 1-0 lead heading into the singles matches.
Bejlkova and freshman Ecaterina Vasenina also competed in doubles action for the Bulls in their flight three doubles match against Amy Sargeant and Jessica Sucupira. Bejlkova and Vasenina fell to Sargeant and Sucupira 8-1.
Bejlkova would pick up a point for the Bulls in her flight five singles match against Sucupira. Bejlkova would take down Sucupira in two sets 6-2, 6-3.
Senior Melissa Koning picked up the Bulls third point of the day in her flight three singles match against Segarelli. Koning swept past Segarelli in two sets 6-4, 6-1.
Mueller kept things rolling for the Bulls in her flight four singles match against Sargeant. The first set during this match was a long battle between the two players but Mueller would pick up the first set 7-6 (7-2). In the second set Mueller would top Sargeant 6-2 and that gave the Bulls the fourth and final point that they needed to pick up the win over the Seminoles.
Rehberger also picked up a singles point for the Bulls on Saturday in her flight one singles match against McCreless. Rehberger grabbed the first set 6-4 and then fell in the second set 6-7 (3-7). That sent the match into a third set and Rehberger beat McCreless 6-4 in the third set.
Vasenina competed in singles action for the Bulls against Rybakova in the flight two singles spot. Vasenina picked up the first set against Rybakova 6-1 but dropped the second set 5-7. In the third set Vasenina ended up falling to Rybakova 6-1.
Guevara also competed in singles action for the Bulls on Saturday against Suess in the flight six singles spot. Suess beat Guevara in two sets 6-3, 6-1.
The Bulls will be back in action on Sunday, Jan. 24, when they travel to Athens to take on No. 4 Georgia. Competition is set to start at 1 p.m.
