DELAND, Fla. - The University of South Florida baseball team fell 6-5 and had its six-game winning streak snapped at Stetson on Tuesday night.

Down 5-4, USF pinch hitter Alex Mendez doubled off the wall in right center to lead-off the eighth inning.  With one out Chad Taylor lofted a fly ball to left, which advanced Mendez to third. Mendez would trot home with the tying and unearned run as the throw from the outfield squeaked by the Stetson third baseman.

In the bottom half of the eighth inning, Stetson would reclaim the lead and the eventual victory.  Stetson shortstop Sean Emory drove in the game winning RBI with a two-out double off USF closer Kevin Quakenbush.

USF began the game with a bang.  Leadoff hitter Ryan Lockwood drove a 1-1 offering over the fence to give the Bulls the early 1-0 advantage. The homer was the first of season and the second of his Lockwood's career.

The Hatters would even the score in the second on an RBI single from second baseman Robert Crews off of USF starter Andrew Salguiero.

Making his second start of the season, Salguiero gave the Bulls five innings allowing four runs, three earned on five hits while striking out two.

In the top of the fourth, the Bulls offense would get back in business and retake the lead with a three spot in the frame.

Eric Sim and Junior Carlin led the inning off with a hit-by-pitch and single up the middle.  After a successful sacrifice bunt by Daniel Rockhold, Todd Brazeal delivered a two-run double to the gap in left that give the Bulls a 3-1 lead.

The rally didn't stop there.

Second baseman Chad Taylor singled to left on the next pitch to put runners on the corners with one out and Lockwood to coming to the plate. Lockwood would deliver for the Bulls with a sacrifice to score Brazeal and extend the lead to 4-1.

However, the pesky Hatters would respond with a Nick Rickles solo homer in the fourth and then chase Salguiero in the fifth.

Aaron Crittenden tied the game with a two-run single off of reliever Kyle Parker in the fifth. Both runs were charged to Salguiero.

Stetson would take the lead in the sixth on a RBI single from Sean Emory.

Now 11-14 on the season, USF will head north and dive right back into BIG EAST play with a three-game set in Cincinnati against the Bearcats on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Game Notes
Ryan Lockwood led off the game with his first home run of the season, on a 1-1 count... Lockwood is the first Bulls to lead off a with a home run since Joey Angelberger lead off a game against Notre Dame with a homer on May 15, 2008... Junior Stephen Hunt with two hits on the day collected his 11 multi hit game of the season, which ties him with junior Carlin who has 11 as well... Junior Kevin Quackenbush made his team leading 12th appearance of the season.
