TAMPA - A four-run sixth inning by the DePaul Blue Demons (27-14 overall, 11-3 BIG EAST) was all that was needed in a 4-0 win over the University of South Florida softball team (21-22, 6-6) in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader.

Back-to-back hits by Lynsey Ciezki and Alex Morocco started the Blue Demons' rally in the sixth, after only having two hits prior to the inning. A throwing error by Alison Savarese allowed Ciezki to cross home, scoring DePaul's first run. Tara Voss then doubled down the left field line, increasing the Blue Demons' lead 3-0.

An RBI infield single by Samantha Dodd was DePaul's final run.

Sophomore Brittany Bowles came in to relieve starter Lindsey Richardson. Bowles struck out Ciezki looking with the bases loaded to end the inning for DePaul.

Bowles tossed 1.2 innings, surrendering three hits and walking two.

The Bulls rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning with Tara Toscano and Janine Richardson reaching base. Toscano earned a four-pitch walk, while Richardson laid down a bunt single for the Bulls' first hit of the game. With two outs, senior Cat Olnick earned a two-out walk to load the bases, but USF was unable to put a run on the board.

Richardson extended her hit streak to six games with the single in the sixth.

In the seventh, sophomore Gina Kafalas singled to third, but that was the only base runner for the Bulls, who fell to 6-6 in BIG EAST play.

Before the sixth, the game was stagnate at 0-0.

After a leadoff double in the second inning, Richardson and the Bulls defense held the runner on base, keeping the score 0-0. Richardson struck out DePaul's Becca Hetaniak looking for the first out. Two back-to-back grounders ended the inning.

After a leadoff walk in the bottom half of the second by senior JoJo Medina, the Bulls failed to move pinch runner Becky Frye off of first. Medina earned two walks in the game.

DePaul, which leads the conference in BIG EAST games with a .326 batting average, recorded eight hits to two for USF.

DePaul, receiving votes in both national poles, was led by freshman Bree Brown (12-4) who earned her second career shutout against USF. Brown tossed the complete game, striking out eight batters but walking six.

Richardson (10-6) earned the loss for the Bulls, hurling 5.1 innings and allowing four runs, two of which were earned, while striking out three and not allowing a walk.
