TAMPA -- The University of South Florida (13-16) baseball team fell to the Central Florida, 7-3, as Knights scored three in the eighth inning to split the two-game season series with the Bulls.

Up 4-3 in the top of the eighth, the Knights (19-12) exploded for three runs, two coming on a two-out triple by centerfielder Ronnie Richardson.

The Bulls collected 10 hits on the night, but stranded 10 runners on base and could only push across three runs in the loss.

The Bulls got a solid outing from LHP Kyle Parker (0-1) in the first start of his career.  Parker pitched 5.1 innings allowing just three runs, two earned on five hits while striking out three and walking three.

UCF got 4.0 innings from starter Brennan Dobbins (3-0) who allowed two earned runs on seven hits while striking out six and walking one.

UCF pitching combined to strikeout 12 Bulls on the night including six by its bullpen.

The USF pitching staff was able to keep UCF standout Chris Duffy quiet on the night. Duffy came into the game batting .478, riding a 20-game hitting streak, but he went hitless in five at-bats making it only the second time this year that he hasn't recorded a hit.

Sophomore Sam Mende continued his success since returning from his jaw injury, as the Bulls' shortstop went 2-4 from the plate including a sacrifice fly in the seventh.

Alex Mendez got the start in the leadoff spot for the Bulls and collected a pair of hits in five at-bats, while scoring a pair of the Bulls' runs on the night.

In the third inning UCF's Shane Brown came to the plate and ripped a double off of the left field wall to score a pair and give the visiting team the early lead.

The UCF lead would not last long.

Mendez led off the bottom of the third with a bunt single, and was able to score all the way from first on a double to the left-centerfield gap by Koscso. Hunt came up with Koscso on second and tied the game with a single through the right side.

After Parker struck out Duffy to begin the sixth inning, Ryan Breen ripped his second double of the game and eventually scored on a single up the middle and a throwing error by Koscso. Doug Wagner came on to replace Kyle Parker, and induced a pair of ground balls to end the inning.

UCF added another run, the eventual game winner in the seventh inning.

Mendez led off the bottom of the seventh inning with his second bunt single of the night, and Koscso singled up the middle to put two on with no outs. After a sac bunt by Hunt, Mendez scored on a sac fly to center by Sam Mende.

UCF put the game out of reach with three runs in the eighth innning.  One run came on a Kevin Quackenbush wild pitch, while two more were driven home on a Ronnie Richardson triple.

The UCF bullpen was able to hold the Bulls' offense scoreless the remainder of the way, and held on to win 7-3.

USF will play host to Georgetown over the weekend, as the first-place Bulls look to continue their success in BIG EAST play.
