GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The University of South Florida baseball team (0-3) dropped a 5-0 decision to No. 1 Florida (3-0) Sunday afternoon at Florida's McKethan Stadium.

The win completes a three-game sweep for the Gators.

Freshman Nick Gonzalez (0-1) suffered the loss for USF.

Making his first collegiate start, Gonzalez, who was battling ilness a few days prior to the start, gave the Bulls three innings on the afternoon giving up two hits and one run while striking out one.

Four USF pitchers worked in relief of Gonzalez, highlighted by Zach Pietrzyk's 1.1 of perfect relief where he retired all four Gator batters he faced striking out one.

The Gators got on the board in the first frame with a run on an RBI single by Preston Tucker and then tacked on two more in the fourth thanks to Nick Zunino's solo home run and Dave Pigott's RBI single.

The Gators would tack on a run in each the sixth and seventh innings to round out scoring on the afternoon.

Offensively, USF was held in check by Gator pitching after pounding out 12 hits in game 2 on Saturday.  The Bulls were lead by junior Sam Mende who had three of the Bulls' four hits on the afternoon. Junior Luis Llerena had the Bulls fourth hit, a single to center in the eigth

The Bulls will look to get on track as they will return to Tampa and prepare to open the new USF Baseball Stadium on Friday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. when they host Elon in the first of a three-game set.

Stay tuned to GoUSFBulls.com as we will unveil the events surrounding opening weekend at the new stadium early this week.
