Game 2:
CLEARWATER, Fla. - The University of South Florida softball team kept its bats hot during the first three innings of its matchup against No. 20 Oklahoma State before dropping a 9-5 decision.
USF (17-15) went to work early, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first frame against the Cowgirls.
Gina Kafalas was first on base the Bulls after being hit by a pitch. Ashli Goff then hit a single to left field, advancing Kafalas to second base. Freshman Stephanie Medina then came in and drilled one over the right field fence, earning her first three RBIs of the afternoon.
Again in the bottom of the third, it was all Medina again when she brought home Kourtney Salvarola and Janine Richardson on a double to right field, making the score 5-2.
Medina finished the game with two hits, one run and five RBI for the Bulls.
Oklahoma State (24-6) had been relatively quiet up until the top of the fourth inning when it exploded for six runs, upping the score 8-5 at the end of the fourth.
From there on out, the Bulls' bats died down and OSU's mid-game comeback was too much to overcome.
Freshman Sara Nevins got the start on the mound and struggled against the Cowgirls, going 3.2 innings, allowing eight runs on seven hits.
OSU's Kate Espinosa pitched a complete game, going 7.0 innings and allowed only five runs on five huts with two strikeouts.
USF will be back in action on Sunday when it faces FAMU at 12 p.m. in Clearwater.
