Bulls Post 16 BIG EAST Marks in Atlanta

ATLANTA - The USF track and field team traveled to Atlanta, Ga. for the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday. Despite inclement weather, the Bulls managed to produce 16 BIG EAST qualifiers and five personal bests. The women's team posted eight BIG EAST marks and three PRs, while the men's team added eight conference marks and two personal bests.
Freshman Christine Poole-Trice tallied two BIG EAST marks on the day in the 200 meters and the 400 meters. Poole-Trice posted a 25.04 in the 200 meters and posted not only a BIG EAST mark but a personal best in the quarter, clocking a 56.24, which was good enough for third place. Junior Nicole Rozario added a conference mark in the 1,500 meters with a 4:36.31.
In the field, freshman Marqueshia Stallworth notched a PR in winning the triple jump. Her mark of 40-4.25 was her first time over 40 feet and was also good enough for a conference mark. Junior Lauren Noe added BIG EAST marks in both the discus and the hammer throw, while junior Casey Wagner continued her hot streak with a win in the javelin. Junior Sarah Canter joined Wagner in posting BIG EAST qualifiers, when she finished third in the event with a 128-10.
Sophomore Pascal Orelus took the 400 meters for the men's team, posting a BIG EAST-qualifying 48.35. He was joined by junior Philip Wise, sophomore Neaman Wise and freshman Camilo Calderon in a group of Bulls that put up qualifiers on the track. Philip Wise's time in the 1,500 meters, 3:54.61, was also a personal best. Neaman Wise and Calderon finished second and fourth, respectively, in the 400-meter hurdles with Calderon posting a personal-best 53.54.
In the field for the men, senior Kevin Kelly and freshmen Joseph Hall, Shane Lewis and Kendall Schafers notched qualifiers. Kelly posted a 187-2 in the javelin, while Hall notched a 184-1. Lewis posted a 47-9.75 in the triple jump and Schafers cleared 15-1 in the pole vault.
The Bulls return to Tampa for their final home meet, the South Florida Invitational, on Friday, April 1. Field events will kickoff at noon, while action on the track will get started at 1 p.m.
