Bulls Improve to 4-1 with Win vs. Tulane

The University of South Florida men's tennis team earned its fourth victory of the season on Saturday with a 5-2 win over Tulane at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. The Bulls, now 4-1 on the year, got five singles wins to overcome their second lost doubles point of the season.

“Tulane is a good team and tough match for us,” USF head coach Don Barr said. “I'm very pleased with how we held our ground with another important match coming on Sunday. The guys had two weeks off before the match today, but they pushed themselves, and I think it got us ready for the matches we have coming up.”

The heart of the Bulls' lineup continued to produce results on Saturday, with players in the bottom five positions earning wins. Wael Kilani defeated Radu Ionescu 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 to start singles play, and that victory was followed by Yannick Yoshizawa grabbing a 6-4, 6-4 win over Rodrigo Rappaccioli at No. 5. Romain Deridder provided the Bulls' third point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Joe Young in the No. 3 spot before Juan Carlos Acuna Gerard clinched the match with a victory over Adam Bernstein in the last singles spot, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

After Lucas Jovita dropped his match at No. 1 to Idan Mark, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8, Federico Sabogal earned the last point for USF with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 win over Shaye Wali at No. 4.

In doubles action, the USF tandem of Kilani and Sabogal posted an 8-2 win over Rappaccioli and Bernstein at No. 3, but the Bulls' top doubles teams both dropped their matches. Jovita and Jamal Adderley fell to Mark and Ionescu, 9-8 (8-6), and the Yoshizawa/Deridder pairing dropped their match to Wali and Young, 8-5.

The Bulls return to action vs. Miami (Fla.) at 12 p.m. on Sunday at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
