Von Eynatten Leads Bulls at Texas Relays

TAMPA - Eleven members of the University of South Florida track and field team traveled to Austin, Texas this week for the 84th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The meet is one of the biggest in the country featuring some of the top athletes from the high school, collegiate and professional ranks. Overall, the Bulls posted 12 BIG EAST qualifying marks and set two personal bests.
Graduate student Denise von Eynatten continued her record-setting season by breaking her own school record for the women's outdoor pole vault with a jump of 14-1.25. She finished fourth in the A section of the event. Von Eynatten holds both the indoor and outdoor records in the pole vault for USF.
Sophomore Monique Williams also set a new personal record at the event after a leap of 19-8 in the long jump, which was good enough for first place in section B of the event. Williams also competed in section B of the triple jump, finishing eighth with a jump of 40-2.25.
Juniors Casey Wagner and Sarah Canter finished eighth and ninth in the javelin with BIG EAST qualifying marks of 146-3 and 139-4, respectively.
In section A of the pole vault, senior Stephanie Duffy placed eighth, clearing 13-1.50, while senior Dana Webb finished 12th in section B with a jump of 12-8.
On the men's side, junior Jared Thomas finished eighth in section A of the discus with a throw of 179-0. Freshman Shane Lewis finished 12th in section B of the triple jump with a BIG EAST mark of 48-7.25 feet.
In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Camilo Calderon ran a BIG EAST qualifying mark of 52.7. Junior David Aristil also posted a BIG EAST qualifying mark with a time of 55.20.
In addition, a group of Bulls competed at the UT Distance Carnival on Friday. USF picked up victories from Natalee Fisher (200 meters), Shaniel Chambers (800m) and Deloria Jackson (400m hurdles) on the women's side, while Reshawn Exilien won both the 100 and 200 meters. Chambers posted a BIG EAST qualifying time of 2:12.70, while Exilien posted qualifiers in both events with a 10.77 in the 100m and a 21.77 in the 200.
Next, the Bulls will travel to Baton Rouge, La. on April 22-23 to compete in the LSU Alumni Gold meet before making their way to Philadelphia, Pa. for the BIG EAST Championships on May 6-8.
