The No. 44 University of South Florida women's tennis team earned its eighth win of the season on Friday with a 6-1 defeat of Stetson at the USF Varsity Courts. The Bulls sit at 8-10 overall with one regular-season match remaining.

“It was another match to get us ready for the postseason,” USF head coach Agustin Moreno said. “It was a hot day today and we looked to be in good condition. I thought Irene overcame some nerves in one of her last home matches and played very well.”

ITA's No. 67-ranked player, Janette Bejlkova, clinched the match for the Bulls with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Sierra Sullivan at No. 3. The win improves Bejlkova to 12-6 in dual match play this year.

The two wins that set up Bejlkova's clincher came from first from No. 114 Ecaterina Vasenina, who downed Shannon Gunning, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2, and Loreto Alonso Martinez over MayaBlue Stauffer-MacDowell, 6-1, 6-2. 

After the match was decided, Alessandra Bonte defeated Lindsey Cable, 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5, and No. 35 Irene Rehberger beat Caroline de los Santos 7-6 (8-6), 6-1, at No. 1.

Katherine Pyne filled in for an injured Kate Parker at No. 6 and dropped her match to Jen Miller, 6-3, 6-1.

The Bulls swept all three doubles matches to earn that point for the eighth time this season. The first tandem off the courts was Bejlkova and Martinez at No. 1 after an 8-1 victory over De Los Santos and Sullivan. Rehberger and Vasenina clinched the point at No. 2 with an 8-3 win over Stauffer-MacDowell and Miller. Bonte and Parker completed the sweep with an 8-6 win over Gunning and Cable at No. 3

USF plays its home finale at 11 a.m. on Sunday vs. North Florida. The Bulls' lone senior, Irene Rehberger, will be recognized before the match.
