Moran Becomes First Junior Drafted, Goes to Reds

TAMPA - Junior right-hander Jimmy Moran of the University of South Florida baseball team was the second Bull drafted on the day as he was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 18th round with the 565th overall draft pick of the 2011 MLB Draft.

He is the first USF underclass man to be selected to be selected. Last season, four juniors were selected in the draft with two deciding to turn pro while Andrew Barbosa and Randy Fontanez opted to return for their senior seasons.

This past season, Moran went 4-1 in 20 appearances, all in relief, with a 3.97 earned run average. He pitched 22.2 allowing 22 hits and striking out 17. Opponents batted .277 off him.

He is the third Bull in two seasons to be selected by the Reds over the last two drafts.
