TAMPA -  The USF women's soccer team was placed in a unique situation Monday morning.

A game the Bulls led DePaul, 2-0, Sunday got totally wiped about because of weather and left USF heading to the soccer field instead of going to class as usual at the start of a new week.

USF was up to the challenge and defeated DePaul, 1-0, Monday at Corbett Soccer Stadium thanks to an overtime goal by Chelsea Klotz.

“I was optimistic that the girls were going to handle the situation well,” head coach Denise Schilte-Brown said.

Schilte-Brown was confident about the matchup's second installment in less than 24 hours because of the great amount of veteran leadership on the team.

“I felt like that maturity would show today and that's what it takes,” she said.

USF (5-3-3) took control of the game in the second half and ended up outshooting Depaul, 25-6.

“They came out, dominated and created many, many scoring opportunities,” Schilte-Brown said.

The Bulls wrapped up the victory with Klotz's goal in the 93rd minute that was assisted by Demi Stokes. Klotz also scored Sunday and played with a determination to put another in the net when it truly counted.

“Chelsea pressed hard the whole game and got a great goal,” Schilte-Brown said.

Instead of stewing over what could have been after Sunday's great start, USF started from scratch Monday and approached it with a positive attitude.

“I was excited to be out here,” Schilte-Brown said. “It was a work day. It was either go to work or yay, get to coach a game.”

“They were like, 'Yeah, soccer is way better,' ” the coach added about her team's thoughts on playing opposed to a usual Monday.

That didn't mean every Bull was off the hook, however.

Schilte-Brown said she had two of her players come up to her after the game and say they had to go take a test instead of hitting the training room for a recovery period.

“I think that's a pretty cool situation,” Schilte-Brown said.

USF has a short turnaround for its next Big East test. The Bulls head to Cincinnati for their next game Friday night at 7.
