TAMPA - The Bulls' 10th straight victory over Seton Hall
got them back into the Big East mix.
Andrea Smith scored a game-high 21 points help the USF women's
basketball lead from start to finish in a 74-52 victory Tuesday night at Walsh
Gymnasium in South Orange, N.J. USF (15-5, 2-3) is now 10-1 against the Pirates
overall and 10-0 since joining the Big East.
Freshman forward Alisia Jenkins scored 15 points and
freshman guard Courtney Williams finished with 12 points. Freshman guard Shavontae
added six points in another strong performance from USF's rising stars.
"We're almost a third of the way into conference play and we're
getting our freshmen more minutes," head coach Jose Fernandez said. "They came
out today and played with passion and energy, and gave us great minutes."
Smith, Jenkins and Naylor scored six points apiece to help USF
build a 30-20 lead at halftime. Williams and Inga Orekhova each had five
rebounds as the Bulls started off with a 25-16 edge on the glass.
Williams and Orekhova each finished with a game-high eight
rebounds as USF kept any comeback chances out of reach by finishing with a
49-33 advantage on the boards.
Jenkins did most of her damage at the free throw line, going
11-for-14 while the Bulls as a whole finished 28-for-33 on the final stop of
the team's two-game road trip.
The Bulls are back in the Sun Dome 6 p.m. Saturday to take
on Marquette. USF finishes up a two-game homestand Wednesday, Jan. 30 with a 7
p.m. game against No. 13 Louisville.
