TAMPA – The USF men's soccer team battled Rutgers to a scoreless tie on the road Saturday night.
The Bulls (4-2-7, 1-1-3) had the majority of the chances throughout the match and really turned up the offensive intensity in overtime.
Rutgers' (5-8-2, 2-3-1) goalkeeper David Greczek made big save after big save to keep the Scarlet Knights in the game and finished with 11 total on the night.
Lindo Mfeka paced the USF offense with five total shots and four on goal, including a couple of good chances in overtime that were turned away by Greczek.
Despite a scoreless first 90 minutes, the pace of play really picked up in overtime. USF dominated possession, outshooting Rutgers 8-3 in the overtime periods.
The Bulls' best chance came in the first overtime period when Mfeka and Terry Delancy both had open looks at goal but were unable to beat Greczek, who made two great saves to keep the game going.
Mfeka created another great opportunity in the 103rd minute when he drew a foul right on the edge of the box. Unfortunately, his curling free kick was saved by Greczek and the Bulls had to settle for their third straight tie.
Senior goalkeeper Brentton Muhammad didn't have much action in his end but made a couple of big saves and posted his fourth shutout this season.
USF returns to action on Wednesday night when they host in-state rival UCF 7:30 p.m., at Corbett Stadium for another big American Athletic Conference match.
