TAMPA – The Bulls dropped a heart breaker to in-state rival UCF on Wednesday night in front of 1,422 fans at Corbett Stadium.
Freshman midfielder Fernando Laverde scored the only goal of the match in the 73rd minute to propel the Knights to a 1-0 victory.
USF (4-3-7, 1-2-3) dominated possession throughout and outshot UCF (6-4-4, 3-1-2) 15-7 for the game, but was unable to find the back of the net for the second straight match.
“I thought that we were very good and I thought that we created a lot of good chances,” head coach George Kiefer said.
The Bulls were also dominant on the defensive end, allowing only one shot on goal all night for the Knights.
“I thought we were very disciplined with our approach dealing with them and give UCF credit, the one thing we noticed about them on tape is that if they get a chance they're pretty good, they can bury it,” Kiefer stated.
Junior forward Kennedy Selorm Adablah led the Bulls offensively with three shots on the night, but USF struggled at times to test UCF keeper Sebastian Evers, who only had to make three saves in the match.
“There's still six points on the line, there's some teams that have an extra game on us, so a lot of points out there still. It's just a matter of battling and fighting and figuring out a way to get three points Saturday night.”
The Bulls continue their three-game homestand on Saturday night when they host SMU at 7:30 p.m. Purchase tickets HERE.
