TAMPA – The USF men's soccer team finished up the regular season with a quality result on the road against the 11th ranked Louisville Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.
The Bulls (6-3-8, 2-2-4 AAC) played the Cardinals (11-3-3, 5-1-2 AAC) to a scoreless draw after 110 minutes of play on the final day of the regular season.
Senior goalkeeper Brentton Muhammad did what he's done all season, coming up with a couple of big saves in the second half to keep the match scoreless. He posted five saves total for his sixth shutout of the year.
In a match where scoring opportunities were few and far between, freshman midfielder Lindo Mfeka paced the Bulls offensively, adding to his team lead in shots with three more on the afternoon.
Both teams played very well defensively, holding each other to only five shots on goal each, despite playing two overtime periods.
With the tie, USF finishes the regular season as the No. 5 seed in the American Athletic Conference and will travel to face the No. 4 seed Temple in a quarterfinal match next Saturday in Philadelphia.
In their regular season meeting on Oct. 12 the Bulls and Owls played to a 1-1 draw. The winner of the match will head to Frisco, Texas for the conference semifinals at FC Dallas Stadium on Nov. 15.
