TAMPA – Sara Nevins pitched her second straight two-hitter to lead
the Bulls to their 13th win in a row, defeating Iowa State, 6-0, in
front of 776 people at the USF Softball Stadium.
Kenshyra Jackson and Kourtney Salvarola both added two hits and
an RBI apiece to pace the offense.
Nevins worked out of some early trouble after two walks in the
first when she got Tori Torrescano to ground into a double play to end the
inning.
The Bulls (19-10) struck first with two runs in the second. Jackson led off the inning with an infield single and scored all the
way from first when Salvarola doubled to the gap in left center field.
Monica Santos then picked up her sixth run batted in this
season when she laid down a great bunt to score Salvarola from third and give
USF a 2-0 lead.
The Bulls continued to play long ball in the third when Jackson
crushed a ball for her seventh home run this year to put the Bulls up 3-0. It
was the second time this year she hit a ball on top of the batting cages in
left center field.
USF tacked on three more in the fifth to make it 6-0. Lee
Ann Spivey singled up the middle to score Allie Patierno who was pinch running
for Stephanie Medina. Jackson stole home and Spivey scored on an error to
account for the other two runs.
Nevins finished with nine strikeouts and didn't give up
another walk after the first inning in route to her second complete game and
team-leading eighth win this season.
After today's two victories the Bulls have now gone four straight games without allowing a run.
The Bulls continue the USF-City of Clearwater Spring
Invitational tomorrow with another double header. They will face Long Island at
4 p.m. and Rhode Island directly after at the Eddie C. Moore Complex in
Clearwater.
