TAMPA – The 2013 USF men's soccer season opener turned out to be a test of patience at Corbett Stadium.
Kennedy Selorm Adablah and Samuel Hosseini each scored in the Bulls' 2-2 double-overtime tie with FGCU that ended after 1 a.m. Saturday.
Fans looking to view USF's debut, originally scheduled for Friday at 8 p.m. on NSCAATV.com, had to wait nearly three hours for it to get started because of a weather delay that pushed back the Bulls' doubleheader schedule. The USF women's soccer team's game against Clemson earlier Friday night also ended in a tie after two overtime periods.
“It's not easy with the delay and, in saying that, I think the team showed some really good things tonight,” head coach George Kiefer said.
The Bulls outshot the Eagles, 20-12, in the rematch of last season's NCAA tournament battle at Corbett Stadium and Kiefer thinks it's just a matter of time before the Bulls' offense puts it all together.
“There are some really good pieces. There are a lot of new guys and it's just getting those pieces in the right spots and figuring out who the right guys are,” Kiefer said. “But there are a lot of weapons on this team and I like our ability to go forward. We just have to do more work finishing stuff out in training.”
Selorm Adablah, a junior transfer from the University of Ghana, put the Bulls ahead right out of the gates when he scored in the third minute off an assist from Wesley Charpie. USF jumped back ahead shortly after the break when Hosseini found the net in the 50th minute.
Next up for the Bulls is another in-state test against Stetson 7:30 p.m. Monday back at Corbett Stadium. Purchase tickets HERE.
