TAMPAThe USF men's soccer team was unable to rally back against Wisconsin after a two-hour weather delay on Thursday night at Corbett Stadium.

The Bulls (1-1-2) dropped their first match of the year, falling to the Badgers, 2-0.

Despite controlling the match in the early going the Bulls surrendered an early goal when Nick Janus scored off a rebound in the eighth minute.

USF held an 8-2 shot advantage over Wisconsin (3-0-1) in the first half and finished with 11 shots for the game compared to only four for the Badgers.

The Bulls created some great chances after falling behind but were unable to capitalize and trailed 1-0 going into the half.

“I thought in the first half they got the goal and then I think that woke us up a little bit and I felt like we had good chances, three really good looks where if you get one of them then the game changes going into halftime,” head coach George Kiefer said after the game.

Senior forward Stiven Salinas sent a shot just wide in the ninth minute and nearly had his second goal in as many games in the 31st minute when his header went just wide of the left post.

Wisconsin struck early again in the second half off of a free kick from Tomislav Zadro that was headed home by Paul Yonga in the 53rd minute of play.

A solid defensive effort from the Badgers the rest of the way kept the Bulls off the scoreboard for the first time this season.

USF will have a week off before heading to Columbia, S.C. for the Gamecock Classic next weekend where they'll look to bounce back against South Carolina on Friday and Kentucky on Sunday.

“It's one game and we have a full week to prepare for South Carolina and we'll be ready.”
