TAMPA, OCT. 1, 2014 – The USF offense exploded for three second-half goals as the Bulls rolled to a 3-0 victory over Georgia Southern on Wednesday night at Corbett Stadium.

The three second half goals were the most in any half for USF this season and the Bulls also set a season-high with 21 total shots on the night.

After a scoreless first 45 minutes Eduardo Maceira, Tyler Blackwood and Edwin Moalosi all scored in a 20-minute span in the second half to lift No. 22 USF to its fourth win at home this season.

“It's all about consistency and you can see from our record this year that we're doing really well at home,” Blackwood said.

Despite outshooting Georgia Southern (4-4) by a wide margin in the first half, the Bulls (5-3, 1-0) were unable to put one in the back of the net, narrowly missing on numerous opportunities.

“When I went in the locker room I was very pleased because they were not happy with their first-half performance, so when guys hold themselves accountable my job is a lot easier,” head coach George Kiefer said.

It didn't take long for USF to get on the board in the second half as Maceira headed home his second goal of the season off a Lucas Baldin corner kick in the 54th minute.

Just over two minutes later USF struck again as Blackwood scored his first-career goal as a Bull. Moalosi made a perfect pass to spring Blackwood free in the box and he did the rest, beating Eagles' goalkeeper Jack Falle to make it 2-0.

“We said we know we're better than this team. We have to go out and just put a bit more work in and as you could see we were explosive,” Blackwood said in regards to the strong second half.

Moalosi put the finishing touches on the match with his third goal in four games to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead in the 74th minute. The senior captain hit a beautiful shot across the box to beat Falle low to his right from about 15 yards out. Baldin picked up his second assist of the game and team-leading fifth of the season while Blackwood also was credited with an assist on the play.

Spasoje Stefanovic only had to make one save to record his second consecutive shutout as the Bulls' defense stifled the Eagles' attack all night long, limiting them to only four total shots.

Next up for the Bulls is their American Athletic Conference home opener on Saturday night against Temple at 7:30 p.m., back at Corbett Stadium.

“You look at Temple, who's a team that's talking like they want to win the conference and we get to play them Saturday night, and that's a treat,” Kiefer stated. “We're going to get after it Saturday night.”
