TAMPA, OCT. 25, 2014 – USF's rally from a two-goal deficit fell just short in front of a season-high crowd of 1,180 on Alumni Night at Corbett Stadium.

The Bulls fell behind 2-0 after Memphis 'defender Quincy Thomas scored his first goal of the season in the 32nd minute and were unable to find the tying goal in the second half after cutting the lead to one.

“The first half we came in not prepared for the fight and we got punished, but we came out to fight in the second half and just couldn't get that goal,” USF goal scorer Lindo Mfeka said after the game.

The Tigers (8-6-2, 2-4-1) scored in the 10th minute on Wil Linder's shot from just outside the box, spotting them an early 1-0 lead.

A little over 20 minutes later Thomas gave Memphis a two-goal lead on a low strike to the corner from about 20 yards out.

“A two-goal lead in soccer is a good lead and is tough to climb out of,” head coach George Kiefer said.

USF didn't take long to respond as Mfeka placed a beautiful shot in the top left corner after a series of nice passes with Edwin Moalosi, who picked up his seventh assist of the year on the goal. It was the fourth goal of the season for Mfeka and got the Bulls within one heading into the half.

The Bulls came out with a purpose in the second half and dominated play, outshooting the Tigers 9-1 in the final 45 minutes.

One of the best chances for USF came in the 55th minute when Moalosi rocketed a ball off the crossbar after making a run down the right side.

The Bulls created another good chance off a corner kick in the 82nd minute but Nikola Paunic's header went just wide. USF had 11 corners on the night with nine of them coming in the second half.

“We created a lot of chances in the second half where clearly we left it on the field trying to get that second goal back. I thought there were a number of chances where I felt like it was coming but it just didn't come tonight.” Kiefer said.

With the loss USF drops to 9-5-1 overall and 4-2-1 in American Athletic Conference play with one league game remaining.

It will be a quick turnaround for the Bulls as they travel to take on Clemson at 7 p.m. Tuesday night before coming home to face UConn in the final game of the regular season on Nov. 1.
