TAMPA, FEB. 14, 2014 – The No. 59 USF women's tennis team came up just short of avenging a loss to No. 58 LSU earlier in the season falling 4-3 Friday night at the W.T. "Dub" Robinson Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.
Unlike the first meeting, the Bulls were unable to take the doubles point falling an early 1-0 deficit. Kayla Rizzolo and Loreto Alonso-Martinez won their match at first doubles but the other two duos fell short.
LSU extended their lead to 3-0 winning the first two singles matches before USF came storming back to knot the match at three apiece. Olaya Garrido-Rivas won a three set match at third singles over Ella Taylor while Fanny Fracassi and Vera Bessenova both picked up straight set victories at fourth and fifth singles, respectively. The last match on the court was at sixth singles which LSU took in a three set thriller as Olga Martinez fell 6-3, 2-6, 7-6.
USF will look to shake off the heartbreak loss on Sunday, February 16 when it takes on No. 66 Tulane in another non-conference match. The match is set to get underway at 12:00 p.m. at the City Park/Pepsi Tennis Center in New Orleans.
