TAMPA, March 14, 2014 – No. 51 USF upped its season best winning streak to 10 matches after defeating No.43 Memphis 5-2 Friday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts. It is the longest winning streak for the Bulls since the 2008 when they won 11 consecutive matches.
The win improved the Bulls record to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in The American while Memphis drops to 9-6 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.
USF opened up the match by taking the doubles point including an 8-4 win for Vera Bessonova and Olga Martinez at third doubles over 65th ranked Alyssa Hibberd and Caroline Wegner. Loreto Alonso-Martinez and Kayla Rizzolo also won at first doubles, 8-5 over Stefanie Mikesz and Anki Wind.
In singles action, Alonso-Martinez, Olaya Garrido-Rivas and Martinez all won in straight sets to clinch the victory for the Bulls. Rizzolo also won at second singles in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
The Bulls will have an extended break as they don't return to the courts until Friday, April 4 when it welcomes VCU to the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
