TAMPA, MARCH 16, 2014 – The Bulls wrapped up play in the Michele Smith Spring Break Tournament with an 8-0 win over Marist in six innings on Sunday evening at the USF Softball Stadium.

Sophomore pitcher Erica Nunn (Apex, N.C.) allowed only two hits in five scoreless innings and racked up seven strikeouts en route to picking up her eighth win this season.

Stephanie Medina (Tampa) lined a ball into right center for her team-leading fourth triple of the season to kick off the scoring for the Bulls in the first. Both Ashli Goff (Tampa) and Kourtney Salvarola (Arnold, Md.) scored on the play to give USF a two-run lead. Medina came around to score on a throwing error by Marist second baseman, Jordynn Barrera, to make it 3-0 after one inning of play.

Salvarola inched closer to the USF home run record with a solo blast to center field in the third. She needs only three more to pass Holly Groves, who hit 33 from 2002-04, for first on the all-time list.

The Bulls added three more runs in the third following Salvarola's team-leading ninth homer this season.  Ronnie Gajownik (Winter Park), Monica Santos (Tampa) and Juli Weber (Hegins, Pa.) all had RBI hits to increase the lead to seven heading into the fourth frame.

Karla Claudio (Puerto Rico) came in to pitch an inning in relief and also ended the game when her dropped fly ball to right field was dropped, allowing Kristen Wyckoff (Plant City) to score from third and send the run-rule into effect.

Eight Bulls registered hits and five different players drove in runs for USF (25-8) in the team's third straight win. The victory gave the Bulls a 7-1 record for the week, with the only loss coming at the hands of No. 12 Baylor.

The Bulls' next game will be Wednesday, March 19 at the USF Softball Stadium when they take on Central Connecticut State at 5 p.m. to finish off the non-conference portion of their home schedule.
