No. 53 USF Takes Down No. 47 UNC Wilmington

TAMPA, MARCH 8, 2014 – The Bulls won their third consecutive match after rallying for a 4-3 victory over UNC Wilmington Saturday afternoon at the USF Tennis Courts.

“We are super proud of the guys' effort today,” said head coach Matt Hill.  “UNCW is a very tough team and it was a great effort from the team to pull the match out after losing doubles.  These guys are really enjoying the war and at the same time, playing smart tennis and that is a dangerous combination.  We aren't celebrating to much because we have a very tough opponent ahead of us with Penn State coming on Tuesday”

After dropping the doubles point to fall behind 1-0, USF rallied winning the first three singles matches to take a 3-1 advantage.  Federico Sabogal put the first win on the board for the Bulls besting Karan Salwan 6-1, 6-4 at sixth singles.  Oliver Pramming defeated Sam Williams in the second spot, 7-5, 6-2.  At third singles, Vadym Kalyuzhnyy defeated Pedro Mol in three sets, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 to give USF the advantage.

UNCW earned a win at the fourth spot before Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz rallied after losing the first set to best Kaue Pereira 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 at fifth singles to clinch the match for USF.  In a match of ranked foes, No. 81 Roberto Cid lost his first singles match in a dual match in three sets.

USF (8-3) has a couple of days off before it returns to the USF Varsity Tennis Courts to host Penn State.  The match is scheduled to get underway on Tuesday, March 11 beginning with doubles at 12:00 p.m.
