CINCINNATI (Oct. 2, 2015) – On a blistery Friday afternoon in Cincinnati, the No. 18 USF women's soccer team dropped its first conference match, 1-0, to the Cincinnati Bearcats.

The Bearcats (7-2-4, 2-0-1 AAC) struck first on a goal by Jaycie Brown with just a minute remaining in the first half. Brown dribbled down midfield and sent a chip shot from the right side of the box to the far post.

USF (9-2-1, 2-1-0 AAC) had a golden chance early in the second half to tie the game. Cristina Ferral sent a corner kick to the far post for Allie Rossi, who had a perfect look at the goal. Cincinnati keeper Natalie Smith was able to come off her line and save Rossi's shot to keep the Bearcats ahead.

In the 51st minute, Ferral once again set up an attempt for the equalizer. After a Cincinnati foul, Ferral sent a free kick just over the net. Three minutes later, Trudi Carter sent a shot directly on goal, but Smith was once again there for the save.

The Bulls piled on the shots late in the second half, but couldn't find the equalizer. USF outshot Cincinnati 15-6 for the game and forced Smith to make 10 saves. In the first 15 minutes of play in the second half, USF outshot the Bearcats 6-0 and forced Smith to make four saves.

The teams were even in the first half with four shots apiece with three of the Bulls' attempts on goal.

Up next for the Bulls is a meeting with East Carolina on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. ECU is coming off a 1-0 win over defending regular season champion UCF.

The USF women's soccer team has posted three consecutive 10-plus win seasons and four in the last five years under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. The Bulls made their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2010 and returned in 2014. USF returns 20 players from last year's roster including All-American Athletic Conference first team midfielder Olivia Chance and second team defender Jackie Simpson. They also bring back 12 players that appeared in 15 or more games last season.
