GREENVILLE, N.C. (Oct. 4, 2015) – A cold and rainy afternoon couldn't deter the No. 18 USF women's soccer team as the Bulls picked up their 10th win of the season with a 2-1 victory over East Carolina.
This is the fifth 10-win season for head coach Denise Schilte-Brown and fourth in a row. With five games left and at least one guaranteed conference tournament game, the Bulls have a chance to become the winningest team in USF history, should they get to 16 wins.
Brittany Raymond got the Bulls (10-2-1, 3-1-0) on the board early on a header in the fifth minute. On a cross from Jordyn Listro, Raymond headed the ball in from five yards out to the top left corner of the net to give USF the 1-0 lead. The goal was the sophomore's second of her career.
In the 35th minute, Ocean Parr made it a 2-0 game with her fifth goal of the season. Sienna Brooks drew the ECU keeper out of the net before crossing the ball to Parr. Parr then found the upper left corner of the net for what would become the game-winning goal.
It looked as though USF would get another shutout, but ECU (7-6-1, 2-2-0) got on the board on a goal by Lana Spitler with just under two minutes to play.
The Bulls outshot the Pirates 17-5 and forced ECU keeper Saundra Baron to make three saves on the day. Parr, Leticia Skeete and Trudi Carter led the way for the Bulls with three shots apiece.
The Bulls will wrap up their home schedule with another pair of conference games this weekend. USF will face Tulsa on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. before taking on Memphis Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. Sunday's game will be Senior Day and there will be a pregame ceremony honoring the seven seniors.
The USF women's soccer team has posted three consecutive 10-plus win seasons and four in the last five years under head coach Denise Schilte-Brown. The Bulls made their first NCAA tournament appearance in 2010 and returned in 2014. USF returns 20 players from last year's roster including All-American Athletic Conference first team midfielder Olivia Chance and second team defender Jackie Simpson. They also bring back 12 players that appeared in 15 or more games last season.
